Window Light

More and more, I am turning to a love of natural images. This is a recent favorite. It is not clean, it has a narrow focus, but it has a ‘realness’ that I connect with. Natural window light, adjusted with Lightroom.

Ghosts

Had a little fun and relaxation with my kids on Easter Sunday doing some ‘Ghost’ pictures.

Long exposure (about fifteen seconds) where they were in frame for about 5 seconds, and then just stepped out. No photoshop, single exposure, straight photo. (Aside from cropping)

Cameras can be fun.

Pizza Guy Grand Opening

Last Thursday I went to the Grand Opening of Pizza Guy in Nampa. Good New York style pizza, and even cooler than that, they have a drive thru. Pizza by the slice or pie, dine-in, carryout, or drive-thru. I think it’s brilliant.  He gave me some coupons for a free slice and 16oz. drink. One per person, but if you would like one let me know.

Some photos of the Grand Opening and location.

Mother and Daughter First Year

Remembering the first year, thinking about the many more to come.

This was a fun shoot behind the Garden Hilton in Eagle, ID.

Why Do I Like This Picture So Much – punctum

This is a photo I have passed over so many times in the past. Looking for something to post this morning to Pinterest (what I do when I hope to feel like someone is noticing my photography) I stopped a little longer on this photo. It’s not the typical type of image I would push to pinterest, but as I spent more time with the photo, I really began to see it for more than I ever had. Roland Barthes came to mind with his idea of studium and punctum.
Certainly there is a cultural recognition of marriage for any western audience. But for me, the punctum is the woman staring back at me as I take the picture. There is already a ‘tension’ to the photo even without her, but as her gaze catches the viewers I am left feeling almost intrusive. I am uncomfortable. I love it. This is a new favorite for me. Taken at Fox Canyon Vineyards in Marsing Idaho.
